Welcome!

My name is M. Maes, and I am a photographer and video editor based in the Metro Detroit area. I have been a professional freelance photographer since 2018, and I specialize in portraits and events. As The DePaulia's photo editor in Fall 2021, I won first place for best sports photograph at the ICPA awards. My work for The DePaulia developed my interest in photojournalism and sports photography, as I primarily covered DePaul's basketball games. My goal in photography is to capture authentic, impactful moments that people will connect with for years to come.

 

I graduated from DePaul in 2023 with my Bachelor's degree in Education and a minor in Film Production. The experiences I gained from DePaul's film program have allowed me to improve my editing and filmmaking skills over the years. I am currently a full-time Film, Yearbook, and English teacher at the secondary level, and I am learning more about my craft every day alongside passionate young creatives.
